West Texas and Wherever my Friends are... My Favorite Places in the world!

I could talk about my favorite places I've vacationed in the past, but the place that holds my heart is the wide open, aired spaces of West Texas. Something about the flatness of the land and a view unobstructed by trees, mountains, or even hills, makes sense to me in a way I cannot accurately explain. I believe that's partly due to being born in Lubbock, Texas. West Texas is in my blood. I cannot wait to move back there someday.

Moving from Rockwall, Texas to Norman, Oklahoma really wasn't that difficult distance-wise yet, emotionally, it was a life changing experience. Freshman year was tough for me but, luckily, my sophomore year, I met some amazing people when I rushed Alpha Phi Omega. These people have vastly improved my life. One of my favorite places in the world is anywhere all of us can be together.

  1. I know West Texas very well, Emily: both my parents are from Texas, and I would spend summers in Brownwood and in Midland with my grandmothers, and my uncle lived in Lubbock before he moved to Big Spring. There's a wonderful reading unit coming up in class during the Native American weeks: When the Storm God Rides: Tejas and Other Indian Legends ... the stories are from the Tejas people of eastern Texas. Of course I like all the reading units, but that Tejas unit is one of my personal favorites. I bet you would like it too! :-)

  2. Hi Emily! I live in Tulsa, so it is a 2 hours drive away from OU to home. During freshman year, I was alright that is until sophomore year, when I start to take more harder science courses and was struggling a bit at the beginning of the semester, I begin to feel super homesick and want to be home. Therefore, I admire you being able to live so far away from home. I am glad that you have made so many great friends that can give you the supports that you need while being away from home! The picture of the farmland you post looks very pretty and peaceful and I hope you will be able to come back to Texas soon!
